Violence Risk Assessments

Violence Risk Assessments

We provide structured, evidence-based evaluations to assess an individual’s potential risk for future violent behavior. These assessments are commonly used in forensic, legal, and clinical settings to inform decisions related to sentencing, supervision, discharge planning, or treatment needs.

Our evaluations are designed to:

  • Assess the likelihood of future violent acts based on empirically supported risk and protective factors

  • Evaluate static (historical) and dynamic (changeable) elements that contribute to a person’s risk profile

  • Differentiate between general violence risk and specific risk factors related to impulsivity, psychosis, personality pathology, or situational stressors

  • Provide clear, structured recommendations for risk management, supervision, or treatment planning

What Our Violence Risk Assessments Include:

  • A comprehensive 90-minute clinical interview exploring history of violence, mental health, substance use, trauma, and relevant psychosocial factors

  • Review of records (e.g., criminal history, psychiatric records, school or employment files, collateral interviews if applicable)

  • Use of validated risk assessment tools (e.g., HCR-20, VRAG, SAVRY), tailored to the referral question and context

  • Evaluation of individual, contextual, and situational factors that may increase or decrease the likelihood of future violence

  • Collateral interviews

  • A detailed, court- or agency-ready report that includes risk formulation, case conceptualization, and specific recommendations for management or intervention

Whether requested by courts, attorneys, employers, or treatment providers, our goal is to offer a fair, thorough, and objective assessment grounded in clinical science and best practices in violence risk assessment.
